Getting Along With Neighbors

Getting along with your neighbors is really just common sense. Think about how you get along with your family and friends and try to do the same with your neighbors. Creating good relationships with your neighbors will result in good friendships and other benefits.

Think about how your house appears on the outside. Make it look nice and make sure you don’t have a ton of weeds around your house. No one likes a yard that is full of weeds and chipping paint. Make sure you are controlling your pets. If you have a dog, make sure he is kept on a leash or inside a fence. Bring your dog inside if it barks at the neighbors. Talk to your neighbors and be friendly while trying to get to know them. Build trust with your neighbors and be a good neighbor. Offer to help with projects or invite them to cookouts. Invite them into your house for a short visit.

If you are planning to build something on your property, tell your neighbor incase they have something to say about it. Lower the volume of your music and TV at home especially at night. If you are having a party, you may want to keep that relatively quiet and not too late so you don’t wake your neighbors. Invite your neighbors to the party also. If they do not like the noise, they will be more tolerant of it simply because they received an invitation.

It is easier to discuss problems with someone you know and trust. You are stuck with your neighbor, so make the most of it. Never talk negatively about your neighbors. It will always get back to them. avoid mowing your lawn early in the morning or using any other tool that makes noise.
