Family game night is still the best way to connect with your family. It is a time to bring all of the family members together and make them take a break from their respective things and unwind with a fun activity. Most of these games have been around since you were a kid (or longer) and are still going strong. They can also be educational, teaching your kids strategy and other skills.

Scrabble is a great way for your kids to learn words and develop their language skills. If you let them add up the points, it can also help with their math skills. Calculating points in scrabble requires not only addition but also multiplication (for double word scores, triple word scores, double letter scores and triple letter scores)

Monopoly is another classic depression-era game that we all grew up with. For the most part, this classic game kind of paved way for businessmen to trade commodities online. Like scrabble, it teaches your children math skills, but in a more practical setting (dealing with “money”). It can even teach your kids about real estate investment! A useful skill these days!

A controversial new version of monopoly has taken out the paper money and much of the human element from the game. Critics say that this version does our kids a disservice by taking away their opportunities not only to count money but to creatively cheat. What do you think?
